Empowering Women Through Cooperative Leadership: Zemen SACCO Participates in International Women’s Day Workshop in Addis Ababa

The leadership of Zemen Saving and Credit Cooperative recently participated in a half-day workshop held at Elilly Hotel in Addis Ababa, bringing together cooperative leaders, development partners, and SACCO representatives from across the sector. The workshop was organized by Henosis Saving and Credit Cooperative, one of the fastest-growing savings and credit cooperatives in Ethiopia. The event was attended by representatives from several SACCOs, the Addis Ababa Cooperative Commission as a government stakeholder, and the leadership of International Cooperative Alliance Africa. The gathering was held in celebration of International Women’s Day and focused on the important role that savings and credit cooperatives play in supporting women’s economic empowerment and community development. During the workshop, participants explored how SACCOs can strengthen financial inclusion and expand opportunities for women through cooperative financial services. Leaders from Henosis also shared valuable insights into the cooperative’s impressive growth journey, highlighting the strategies and management practices that have contributed to its rapid expansion. Representatives from Zemen Saving and Credit Cooperative had the opportunity to actively engage in discussions, exchange experiences with other SACCO leaders, and build meaningful professional connections. The workshop also opened promising opportunities for Zemen to strengthen its engagement with the broader cooperative movement, including exploring potential membership with the International Cooperative Alliance Africa and expanding its network with SACCO leaders across the country.
